Component models
COSMOS will construct an Earth system model based on models for the major components of the system: atmosphere ocean and land, and their sub components representing specific families of processes, e.g. chemistry in the atmosphere or marine biology. The COSMOS strategy aims at the exploitation of existing component models which firstly will be coupled to an Earth system model including the carbon cycle. A range of component models to be considered for COSMOS has been identified at the first COSMOS workshop, and is shown in the table below. These models are currently used and/or developed at the institutions which were represented at the workshop.
COSMOS activities within the specified modelling sectors can be found under Organization.
