Subject: Re: COSMOS GA New Agenda Draft; Now really!
Dear all,
after having received a number of cancellations and a number of critical
voices regarding a meeting with only up to 30 people, I think it would
be sensible to postpone our general assembly. The alternative of having
a shorter meeting is not really an attractive option given that we
cannot easily change our hotel and flight reservations. (And you never
know how long Eyjafjalla continues to smoke.)
Instead of holding a meeting, some of us suggested a telco - infact two
telcos, one for the board and one on a potential FP7-proposal, perhaps
on the afternoon of April 28th. In my opinion that is a sensible option.
So with the votes of the chairs (Robert, myself - Heikki enjoys sailing
I was told), scientific director and manager (Daniela, Reinhard), and at
least one board member (Gerrit) we will cancel this year's COSMOS
general assembly.
I apoligize to Christophe, Colin and Reinhard, and I thank you for your
effort.
Reinhard and I will set up the agenda for the telco very soon.
Best wishes
Martin

Of these 10 are from MPI-M, and major players in COSMOS do not plan to attend (Jena, Mainz, DLR, etc.). I think we need more time in advance, and a more carefully constructed agenda, to make the meeting attractive enough for a larger crowd. So postponing to something like late spring next year, not to close to other major conferences, seems like a good idea to me.

Especially Marco will be returning only April 26 due to the volcano, after a long stay in the US, I am not sure he plans to go to Sweden that week, so news on CMIP5 and other projects might have to be given by someone else ...

We will reimburse registered persons the amount payed; hotel and travel tickets can not be reimbursed. We are very sorry for this news, and will try to learn our lessons to make the next GA more of a success!
